Sooo I know I said I would post my workout today, but I have gotten so many questions about my Turmeric Golden Milk after posting about it on insta, I knew I had to give you guys the deets!
I found out about Golden Milk AKA Turmeric Tea while researching a million ways to reduce inflammation and detox my liver. Last year I went through quite a bit a health problems that lead to my liver, kidneys, and gallbladder becoming inflamed. I also had allergic reactions and inflammation on my face. It was not a fun time.
So many of the things we eat and our environment in general aggravate our insides and they become inflamed. This is what leads to cancer and other diseases. Just because we can’t see our organs frustrated, doesn’t mean they aren’t. Listen to your body. When it hurts or you feel super yucky when you eat something, it’s probably time to stop eating that. Your body gives you signs all the time, we just have to listen to them.
It turns out all of my issues were linked to Celiac Disease, an autoimmune disorder. Doctor’s kept prescribing me antibiotics which I VERY reluctantly took, and little did I know the antibiotics were aggravating my organs and disease even more. I will do a longer post on my entire journey with this, but long story short, I had a lot of inflammation to take care of.
Cue Golden Milk!
Let me give you a little history on this magical turmeric Golden Milk: One of the earliest documentations of turmeric is in a book of herbal remedies from 600 BC. Turmeric Tea is a traditional Assyrians drink. “Turmeric has proved of value as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, digestive aid, skin remedy, an adjunct treatment for cancer as well as a prevention for many ills of modern life: heart disease, diabetes, and certain auto-immune conditions.”
Medicinal Benefits of Turmeric: “Turmeric is used to improve the way we break down fats and sugars, and for general immunity. Turmeric is also relatively rich in Vitamin C, magnesium for nerves and muscle health, and other nutrients. When people think of turmeric as a medicine, they often think of its anti-inflammatory effect, especially useful for long-term joint pain or immune disorders. In fact, turmeric helps even in the short term to heal inflamed gastrointestinal walls, in contrast to the anti-inflammatory steroidal drug, cortisone. Turmeric is also used for its antimicrobial effects against bacteria, some viruses and fungi” (source)
UMMM..YA. It’s clear why I became OBSESSED with it!!
The good thing about Golden Milk is it’s super quick & easy to make (<<we love that!). I typically will enjoy a cup in the evening. Turmeric Golden Milk: 4 simple ingredients to fulfill your little heart’s desire.
Turmeric Golden Milk Recipe
1 1/2 cup of coconut milk (or almond milk)
2-3 teaspoons of turmeric
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
a few dashes of black pepper (helps with absorption)
** option to add add a few dashes of cayenne pepper or raw honey
Blend all ingredients (except honey) in a blender (I use a Nutri Ninja <<on sale!!). Add to a small pot, place on the stove, and heat on medium until your Golden Milk is hot (not boiling). Take off the stove, pour into your favorite mug (<<my fav) and enjoy it’s magical benefits!
