Melt In Your Mouth Chicken Wings

T- 2 days until the Super Bowl!!

Wondering what to bring to your Super Bowl party this weekend? I gotcha covered. I kid you not with the title, these chicken wings are sooo bomb!  And since chicken=protein they are filling,  which means less dip you are stuffing your face with (or popcorn in my situation). Win-win right?

Going to parties with a large spread of food used to stress me out a bit.

Umm your crazy, Why?

Glad you asked!  There’s always tons of food, and though it’s quite delicious, it’s not delicious for your body.  The food typically includes cream cheese, cheese, sour cream, dips, salty snacks, chips, cookies, you get the point. All food that destroys your digestive system and leaves you feeling pretty yucky after!

Ever wonder why in those situations you just keep eating and eating but never seem to be full? You just keep inhaling the buff chicken dip (been there done there like 100000x).  The answer is pretty easy, it’s because all of that food is so hard for your body to digest!  You body has to use up tons of energy and nutrients just to process all that crap.  Now that your body is done processing it, and depleted of nutrients, its SUPER hungry and needs to be fed nutritious food to balance out.  Do we feed it more nutricious food?  Nope, back to the chips & dip, and the viscous cycle continues leaving you in a #foodcoma.  Let’s not forget the alcohol involved and the tole that is taking on your body on top of everything else!  Trust me I’ve been there, I think we’ve all been there!

But, let’s be real.  It’s Super Bowl Sunday and you know you are going to indulge a bit, that’s fine!  We are all about balance.  So let’s prepare our bodies ahead of time to create that balance and not overwhelm ourselves.

Here are 4 tips to give your body a break and prepare for a little indulgence:

1.  Do a H.I.I.T or Circuit (<<only 20 mins) workout in the morning! It will block your body from absorbing all that sugar and fat later in the day.
2.  Make sure you have a killer breakfast and lunch before you head out for the evening. Know your going to indulge? Cool, load up on the veggies and proteins earlier in the day. Make it count.
3.  Have a veggie and protein meal right before you leave. I always like to have a quick salad with avocado before we go to a party or event. It will fill me up so I won’t be tempted to stuff my face as soon as I get there.
4.  Bring a healthy option to the party! If you bring something healthy and yummy you will give yourself better options.

**I have Celiac disease and I’m lactose intolerant, so my options are a little more limited. Rather than be stuck with nothing to eat, I ALWAYS bring something I know I can eat.

Okay, okay time for these absolutely amazing chicken wings… Seriously guys they melt in your mouth. I make them for dinner on the reg and every time I eat way more than I should…woops. Sorry they are just THAT good.

Best part is, they are made with all seasonings and spices you most likely have in your cabinet. No yucky sauces or additives. Gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free. Woot woot!

For a vegetarian option, feel free to toss the spice mix with some shrimp and bake them for 8-10 mins, just as good!

Super Bowl Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

2 lbs of chicken wings or drumsticks

1 tablespoon of dried oregano

1 tablespoon of dried rosemary

1 tablespoon of ground cumin

1 tablespoon of sea salt (<< please do not use processed table salt!  Use sea salt here or Himalayan Pink Salt)

1/2 tablespoon of black pepper

2 tablespoons of dried basil

4 tablespoons of olive oil (<< love this kind!)

2-4 cloves of garlic (minced)

 

 Directions: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Rinse your chicken wings (or drumsticks) and pat dry with a paper towel.  Place in a big  bowl. Next mix together: 1 tablespoon of oregano, 1 tablespoon of rosemary, 1 tablespoon of ground cumin, 1/2 tablespoon of sea salt.  Toss the chicken with your spice mix so each piece is well coated. (Tip: I will rub each piece of chicken with the spice mix to make sure it’s on there good)

Place chicken wings on a nonstick baking sheet (if not non-stick then spread a little olive oil with a paper towel on the sheet).  Bake for 25 minutes.

While your chicken is baking, mix together in a bowl 4 tablespoons of olive oil, minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of sea salt, 2 tablespoons of dried basil, 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper.

When the chicken is done, take them out of the oven, toss with the olive oil spice mix and bake for 5 more minutes.

They are complete! Now enjoy and try to share with your friends!
