I recently got back from one of the most memorable, spur of the moment, weekend trips of my life. It wasn’t anything overly expensive or extravagant. Actually the whole weekend only cost us $150, and that was mainly gas! My fiance, Matt, and I are pretty laid back. We love and appreciate getting the chance to indulge in extravagant experiences, but most of the time you’ll catch us enjoying the simple parts of life.
So last friday Matt called me at work and asked if I wanted to go to Spring Training in Arizona. Of course I quickly said yes, to which he replied “how would you like to drive to Arizona and camp out Friday and Saturday?” I was totally in! As soon as I was finished work on Friday I ran to the grocery store to pack stuff for breakfasts & lunches in a cooler. Like I have mentioned here and here. Traveling does not mean eating unhealthy out of convenience. I packed NOKA Superfood blend packets, stuff for salads, pulled rotisserie chicken, avocados, apples, rice crackers, Sujas & Perfect Bars.
We packed the car up with our favorite blankets, and drove 5 hours to an amazing campsite on Lake Pleasant, AZ. It was super dark when we arrived so we parked where we assumed the lake was and passed out. The seats in Matt’s car lay completely flat which allows us to layer cushions and blankets to make for a comfortable bed in the car.
When we woke up the next morning the view was breathtaking! It was the most gorgeous view I have ever woken up to! It was completely quiet and so peaceful. Matt and I drank some Sujas and ate a Perfect Bar for breakfast then opened our books and spent the entire morning just reading and taking in the views. (I am reading this one and Matt was reading this one…both are so good!!)
At around 11am we drove the hour to Goodyear to watch the Indians vs. Giants game. I had packed some salads and snacks so we tailgated and ate a little before the game. It wasn’t complete without a beer to wash everything down! Mine was gluten free of course while Matt enjoyed his Pacifico. This was my first Spring Training game and I loved it!! We got there a little early to go down by the field and get player autographs. I was SUPER excited when I met Terry Francona!!! He used to be our neighbor when we lived in Cleveland which I absolutely made a point to tell him and also let him know that I used to see him all the time on East 4th St. (Matt found this quite hilarious I decided to just spark up a conversation with him).
We eventually found our way to our seats and who do I run in to but one of my super good friends from college, Jordan! Small world! So I spent half my time watching the game and the rest of the time gabbing away and catching up with my girlfriend. After the game we went over to one of our friend’s houses in Phoenix and hung out for a while before making out way back to the campsite.
Sunday morning we woke up, spent the morning just relaxing, reading, and taking the fresh air. After having some protein & green shakes for breakfast we headed to Peoria to watch the Padres vs. A’s game. When we got to the game we ran into some ladies Matt works with and they gave us tickets to the Member Hospitality tent at the game that was all you can eat and drink. We found ourselves there for the first half of the game because the food was so bomb!!
After 2 amazing days we made the 5 hour drive home back to San Diego with some of the most incredible memories!!
